Hello!

My name is Joy Fields and I’m a Certified Full Spectrum Doula serving families in Washington, D.C, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. My interested in birth and babies began when I was a young child. I learned more about doulas during my undergraduate studies and was intrigued with the idea of supporting families in such a transformational way. Many years later, as I prepared to enter motherhood, I knew that having doula support would be a part of my plans. Now I am able to provide the care and support to others that was previously shown to me. My pregnancy and birth experiences helped propel me to this work. I am a member of the pregnancy and infant loss community, have given birth in a hospital and experienced out of hospital birth with midwifery care. These unique birth journeys paired with training and my natural gifts help me provide exceptional support.

I am honored to serve families throughout different phases of the reproductive spectrum. Services are provided from preconception and pregnancy through birth and immediate postpartum. Read below for more information that may help you decide if I would be an ideal addition to your birth team.

More about Joy

  • I am naturally an outgoing person, but have a calm and grounded side that often leads me through birth and postpartum support.

  • Birth work is a passion and calling for me. I believe that God has gifted me with specific traits that allow me to serve families with empathy and excellence.

  • I pull from my educational and professional background as a nationally certified school psychologist to highlight the social-emotional wellness of my clients. In addition to the physical, I love supporting families through the mental and spiritual aspects of birth.

  • While everyone wants a “healthy baby and mother,” I believe we should raise our standards for birth outcomes. I want families to enter their births with hopeful anticipation and excitement, knowing that it’s possible to have a positive and joy filled birth.

  • I have training in trauma informed practices. I believe it's essential to engage in fear clearing before entering into birth and processing through the birth experience afterward.

  • I love to use herbal remedies and other natural healing modalities with my clients.

  • I breastfed each of my children for well over a year and my first hand experiences helped increase my knowledge about lactation. I also have developed a network of resources and lactation consultants for when my clients need expert care.

  • Outside of birth work, I love spending time with my husband, children, and dog. We often have dance parties and break out in musical selections!

Kind Words

“Joy is an absolute God Send! From the moment we encountered her during our virtual consultation call we immediately felt a genuine connection. My husband and I worked for two years to conceive and we knew we wanted to hire a doula to be an advocate on our behalf. What we didn’t know was that we were getting an advocate, a counselor, a prayer warrior, a coach, accountability partner, a friend, & now a chosen member of our family wrapped into one. Joy is extremely knowledgeable and has a profound ability to make you feel comforted and at ease..." -Alexis J.
